EXHIBITION: CADENCE
Complexe de Canal Lachine & Montreal Folk
Festival on the Canal (MFFC) are collaborating to co-present a curated art show
featuring 30 Montreal artists.
The artwork for CADENCE
is to be inspired by a song.
The exhibition will take
place from May 31 to June 7 at the E.K. Voland Gallery and will be a must see
stop for the hundreds of art lovers who will visit the Complexe's Open House June
2 from 3-9pm
The MFFC will bring in
emerging acoustic artists to come and play music for the duration of the Open
House.
On opening gala night of the
MFFC the curated art show will be moved to the Centre Culturel Georges-Vanier
where it will be presented with a vernissage held in affiliation with the
opening night indoor concert to be enjoyed by the MFFC music lovers.
Each selected artist will receive a
presentation vignette post on the MFFC and E.K. Voland Face Book pages leading
up to the Open House and Music Festival.
CRITERIA FOR THE
WORK

Artists
are invited to create a work inspired by a song. All genres of music are
acceptable. The title or lyrics of the song should be named by the artist in
order to express what the song suggests to him/her.
Artists
are asked to explore the visual possibilities suggested by music in the most
creative way possible: narration of the lyrics, emotional tone of an
instrumental piece, visual representation of a rhythm, memory evoked from a
song, the colour of a sound, etc.
Surface:
In order to conform to our vision for the exhibition,
we ask that you only use 18” x 18” x 1-5/8" panels or stretched canvas. No other format or size will be
accepted. Canvas/Panels can be purchased at Support Surface or Ave des Arts on Victoria Ave in Westmount. Ave des Arts will give you a 20% discount if you mention that it is for the show CADENCE.

Technique:
Painting, Drawing, Photography, Collage and any other
2D technique will be accepted, providing the work is adhered securely to the
panel/canvas and does not exceed the outer boundaries of the panel’s/canvas'
edges.
Presentation:
• The sides of the panels/canvas
should either be painted or finely finished
• No frames will be accepted. The
works must be ready to hang.
• The artists’ name, title of the
work, date, and media must be inscribed on the back of the panel/canvas.
How
to Submit the Work:
The work must be delivered to studio 349 in Complexe
du Canal Lachine on May 17 or 18th between 10 and 2pm (arrangements can be made if you are
unable to come during these hours).
Each artist may submit one
work for the jury’s
consideration.
A
maximum of thirty artworks will be selected by the curators. Accepted artists
will be asked to pay a $30 hanging fee. Please note that the gallery does not take a
commission on any sales.
The
artist must also submit the completed Application Form (see below, print out and attach securely to artwork)

EXTRA DOCUMENTS TO BE INCLUDED WITH SUBMISSION
1. A high-resolution image of the work (minimum (4” x 6” - 300 dpi) for use in accompanying exhibition binder.
2. An artist statement as it refers to the work (not to exceed 100 words)

À TOUS LES ARTISTES | EXPOSITION CADENCE
Le Complexe du Canal Lachine et le Festival folk de Montréal sur le canal s’unissent pour présenter une exposition mettant en vedette 30 artistes montréalais.
Laissez vous inspirer par une chanson
et proposez une œuvre pour CADENCE !
L’exposition aura lieu du 31 mai au 7 juin au Centre d’art E.K. Voland, une escale obligée pour les centaines d’amoureux de l’art qui se presseront au Complexe du Canal Lachine à l’occasion de l’événement porte ouverte du 2 juin.
De 15 h à 21 h, des artistes émergents participant au Festival folk de Montréal seront présents pour offrir des performances acoustiques à nos nombreux visiteurs.
L’exposition sera ensuite déplacée au Centre culturel Georges-Vanier. Le vernissage, coïncidant avec le gala et le concert d’ouverture du festival, attirera l’attention des amateurs de musique.
Les artistes choisis pour l’exposition seront mis en vedette par des vignettes de présentation sur les pages Facebook du Festival folk de Montréal sur le canal et du Centre d’art E.K. Voland pendant les promotions croisées de l’événement porte ouverte et du festival.
CRITÈRES DE SÉLECTION
Les artistes intéressés devront soumettre une œuvre inspirée par une chanson de leur choix, quel qu’en soit le genre. Le titre ou le texte doivent être cités afin d’exprimer en quoi la pièce musicale est une source d’inspiration.
Les artistes sont invités à explorer toutes les facettes d’expression visuelle suggérées par la musique — description narrative, tonalité émotive d’une pièce instrumentale, représentation visuelle d’un rythme, souvenir évoqué, couleur sonore. Laissez éclater votre créativité !
Support :
Dans le cadre de cette exposition, seules les œuvres sur panneau ou sur toile, tendue sur faux cadre, de 18 x 18 x 1 5/8 po seront acceptées.

Technique :
Peinture, dessin, photographie, collage ou toute autre technique 2D est recevable, dans la mesure où les matériaux adhèrent fermement à la surface et n’en excèdent pas les limites.
Présentation :
- Les côtés du panneau ou de la toile doivent être finis en étant peints ou autrement ;
- Les œuvres ne doivent pas être encadrées, mais être prêtes à accrocher ;
- Les informations suivantes doivent être inscrites au dos de l’œuvre : nom de l’artiste, titre, date, technique et matériau.
Date limite pour soumettre une œuvre :
Veuillez déposer votre création au studio 349 du Complexe du Canal Lachine, le 17 ou le 18 mai de 10 h à 14 h (veuillez nous contacter s’il vous est impossible de vous conformer à cet horaire).
Chaque artiste peut soumettre une œuvre à l’examen du jury.
Les jurés choisiront au maximum 30 œuvres pour l’exposition. Les artistes sélectionnés auront à débourser des frais d’accrochage de 30 $. Nous vous rappelons que le Centre d’art ne retient aucune commission sur les ventes.
